Extra Police Allocated For The Latrobe Valley More Police Allocated An additional 15 frontline police will be allocated across the Eastern Victoria region by 30 June in another major boost to the state’s police resources. By Russell Northe - 13th January 2012 - Back to News Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe said the latest allocation announced by Victoria Police would support the force’s ongoing efforts to fight crime and anti-social behaviour in the local community.
Mr Northe said additional police would be allocated to 21 divisions across four police regions.
"Amongst these, Eastern Victoria will get an additional 47 police officers, which is further broken down to 15 across the Bass Coast, Baw Baw and Latrobe regions," Mr Northe said.
"Divisional Superintendents will have responsibility for determining which areas and stations within their division will receive the additional resources.
"Victoria Police is best placed to make decisions about where additional police should be allocated and this system allows them the flexibility within each division to move police to where they are needed most."
Mr Northe said this allocation was on top of the extra 21 frontline police which were allocated to the Latrobe Valley in 2011 as part of the Coalition’s commitment to make Victoria safer.
"Families have every right to feel safe in their homes and on the street and the Coalition Government is ensuring Victoria Police is properly resourced to undertake necessary crime deterrence and preventative measures.
"Putting more police on the beat will boost community safety and serve as a visual reminder that crime, violence and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated."
"Our police work extremely hard keeping their communities safe and these additional officers will boost their efforts in targeting local crime issues and making our roads safer.
"This allocation of 275 extra police Victoria wide is another important step towards improving community safety and delivering on the government’s promise to provide 1,700 additional frontline police by November 2014.
"By mid-2012 an additional 850 frontline police will have been allocated across Victoria since the Coalition took office in November 2010."
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the additional police force members would make streets safer at night for local residents.
"Making streets safer for local residents is a key issue within the Latrobe Valley community," Mr Chester said.
"In my community survey last year 80 per cent of respondents from the Latrobe Valley indicated that they supported more police on the beat to make communities safer.
"Putting more police on the beat and having a high visible presence is the most effective way to prevent crime and improve community safety."
