Youth Speak 2003

Latrobe City Youth Services will be holding a Youth Forum on Wednesday 25 June at the Moe Town Hall.

By Latrobe City Council - 20th June 2003 - Back to News

Latrobe City Team Leader Youth Services, Susan Lloyd, said that the forum, called YOUth Speak, will bring together more than 100 young people from schools, along with workers from youth agencies to discuss current issues.

"Following an official opening by Councillor Lisa Price, two representatives from Latrobe City’s Youth Council will address the forum on what Youth Council is about and why it is important for young people to have their say," Ms Lloyd said.

"The young people will then be split into groups where they will brainstorm local issues. The issues raised will then be whiteboarded and after lunch, the small groups will form again. A facilitator will be allocated to each table to participate in and encourage discussion on that group’s topic, be it drugs or unemployment," Ms Lloyd explained.

"We actively encourage our young people to take notice of what’s going on around them and keep up with current affairs. This forum will enable young people in the municipality to come together in a discussion setting and develop strategies for dealing with issues that matter to them," Ms Lloyd said.

Ms Lloyd added that the forum is funded by FreeZA, a State Government initiative in youth entertainment.

"YOUth Speak is free to all participants. The day will run from 10am-2pm and lunch will be provided. Anyone interested in attending can register by calling Latrobe City Youth Services on 1300 367 700," Ms Lloyd concluded.
