Master Artists At WorkAs part of the celebration of the Bass Coast Art Acquisition exhibition, Coalfields Art Gallery will be holding a demonstration day on Sunday 17 May from 10am. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 27th April 2009 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council’s Arts Officer, Josephine Kent, said two of the artists represented in the collection would be demonstrating at the Gallery.
"Mt Martha artist Rodney Symmons will be working in watercolour and Coronet Bay artist Ramon Horsfield in oils and pastels." explained Ms Kent.
"It will be a great chance to see how these two work, whether you are a painter or not, as well as mixing with others artists.
"The day is being organised by director Janice Orchard at Coalfields Art Gallery. If you are interested in enrolling, you can register for the event by calling her on 5672 4004."
The demonstration day runs from 10am until 4pm. It costs $60 to attend, with lunch as well as morning and afternoon tea included in the price.
Rodney Symmons can be described as a traditional landscape painter and is influenced of the Heidelberg School, Lloyd Rees, J Turner and Arthur Boyd. With his great attention to the effects of light on the landscape he manages to capture the essence of Australia. Rodney has received over thirty five major awards including the Bass Coast Acquisitive Prize at the San Remo and Newhaven Lions Club Art show in 2002.
Ramon Horsfield has had a long and distinguished career as a full time artist. His works are represented in local, overseas, corporate and private collections. During his career he has won numerous awards for painting in oil, watercolours and pastel. He has won five of the Bass Coast Acquisitive Prizes. Ramon has also been a judge three times for art shows that have acquired work for the Bass Coast Collection.
The Bass Coast Shire Art Acquisition Exhibition at Coalfields Gallery runs from 2 – 26 May, open Thursdays to Mondays from 1am until 5pm.
