Council’s immunisation service rates highly

Latrobe City Council’s Health Services team recently conducted a survey on its immunisation program which showed a high level of parent satisfaction.

By Latrobe City Council - 18th June 2003 - Back to News

Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Graeme Middlemiss, said that the survey had been well received, with 377 responses received out of the 395 surveys distributed during immunisation sessions held in February, March and April.

"In Victoria, 52% of childhood vaccinations are given at sessions organised by local government. It is therefore important that the service we offer addresses parents’ needs," Cr Middlemiss explained.

"The Health Services team should be congratulated on the positive nature of the survey results. Some good points were also raised which can be looked at, but overall the service has a very high level of client satisfaction,’ Cr Middlemiss said.

Latrobe’s Manager Health Services, Andrew Mackintosh, said that the parents were asked questions on all aspects of the service, such as session times, staff and parking.

"We were very pleased to score a 100% Yes rating on the first question, ‘Are you satisfied with the immunisation service provided?’. We then went on to ask about the suitability of existing days and times, which scored a Yes rating of 98.8%. Session accessibility and adequate parking earned a Yes rating of 99.8%," Mr Mackintosh explained

"99.8% of respondents said they were comfortable with the session set-up and the same figure agreed that they had sufficient opportunity to discuss concerns with staff," Mr Mackintosh continued.

Mr Mackintosh added that parents were asked to make comments regarding the immunisation service, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

"Most parents saw all aspects of the service as well-organised and friendly. There were also some very useful comments regarding provision of infant changing tables and breastfeeding areas, and an extension of session times.

"The Health Services team can review the data and ensure that the same high standard of satisfaction is carried forward for future sessions, as well as addressing the comments and concerns raised," Mr Mackintosh said.

Cr Middlemiss added that Council was committed to offering an immunisation service that met the requirements of parents in the municipality.
