Tour Of Gippsland Races Back Into Latrobe City

Hot on the heels of the Tour de France, the local version, the Lakes Oil Tour of Gippsland, pedals back into town on Thursday 2 August, with a road race and a lap circuit event set to attract hundreds of riders.

Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Ed Vermeulen, said that the event was always a spectacle and usually drew big crowds.

"This year there is a criterium event, round a 30 lap circuit in Moe at the Ted Summerton Reserve, between 11am and 12 noon. Watching the riders race full throttle around the laps is a fantastic sight.

"Stage 5 of the Lakes Oil Tour of Gippsland will be a thrilling 55 km race commencing at Bunnings Warehouse, Mid Valley Morwell from 1.30pm and will see the riders race from Morwell via Coalville, Narracan, Thorpdale and finishing in Yinnar," Cr Vermeulen said.

"This hilly route will allow the riders to enjoy the beauty of our natural scenery and to experience the hills and valleys of the Latrobe City region. We welcome the riders and their entourage and would encourage spectators to get out and support them during the race.

"There will be some disruption to traffic during both races so if you’re out and about at the race times, follow the signage and please make sure you allow extra time for your journey," Cr Vermeulen concluded.
