Shire Selects Paynesville Community Centre Contractor

East Gippsland Shire Councillors have voted to accept a tender submitted by Andeco Construction Group Pty Ltd for the construction of Paynesville Community Centre.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 8th September 2008 - Back to News

Andeco is a company that focuses on the construction of commercial, industrial and public buildings for the private and government sector.

This follows Council’s decision in February 2007 to demolish the existing Paynesville Community Centre building due to extensive damage caused by movement over the last few years.

A contract to design the Paynesville Community Centre was awarded by Council in November 2007 to WMCQ Architecture and Design who supplied the specifications for the construction of the new building.

Demolition of the old centre has been completed and the site has been cleared in readiness for the start of construction.

The new expanded building will comprise the library, community centre, childcare centre, offices and meeting rooms, a conference room, outdoor play area, Scouts area, Coast Guard radio room and medical centre.

As part of the new works, storage sheds and new community toilets are being constructed on Gilsenan Reserve.

Shire CEO Steve Kozlowski said funding of $1 million had been received from the State Government towards the Community Centre and a $1 million agreement had been signed with the Federal Government for the Community Health Precinct.

"As well the Council is pursuing legal action to recover some of the costs associated with the demolition and subsequent rebuilding of the centre," he said.
