Mr O'Brien said, "I am encouraging local schools, community groups or businesses to get involved and help keep our waterways and streets free from litter. We live in one of the most picturesque electorates in the state and this is a great opportunity to give back to the environment."
"While the official Clean Up Australia Day takes place on 2 March, you can plan your event for any day that works for you and still register it as an official event and receive a clean-up pack," said Mr O'Brien. Local events within Gippsland South that have already registered include:
- Golden Beach - to meet at caravan park at 10am
- Sale CBD - organised by Sale Guides and Scouts to meet at the clocktower for 10am
- Venus Bay - to meet at Beach One at 8.30am with a BBQ lunch to follow
- Poowong Consolidated School - to meet at the school at noon (volunteers over 18 will need to show proof of a valid WWCC)
