Sporting grounds looking good for the seasonThe recent rainfall has made significant improvements towards the appearance of sporting grounds throughout Latrobe City, but to be at their peak - "we need more rain," Latrobe City recreation development officer, Simon Clark has said. By Latrobe City Council - 12th April 2006 - Back to News "Players and spectators will have witnessed over the first weeks of local football, that local sporting grounds are looking good for this year’s winter competition season," Mr Clark said.
"As a part of the annual maintenance program, many of the grounds have been top dressed and fertilised in preparation for the winter season.
"The council’s outdoor maintenance team were confident of decent playing surfaces at the beginning of local winter football pre-season training which was underway weeks prior to the official start of the season.
"Due to dry conditions over the last two months, grounds that do not have sprinkler systems have been in need of some good rain. Grounds with sprinkler systems though are in great condition and with the recent cooler change we’re looking forward to all the grounds looking significantly greener with some follow up rain."
Mr Clark said that the Latrobe City outdoor maintenance team have received praise from several sporting ground user groups including the Traralgon & District Cricket Association, Moe Football Netball Club, Morwell Football Netball Club, and the Moe Cricket Club for the condition and presentation of the playing surfaces over the summer months.
"Latrobe City is proud to see local hockey, soccer, AFL football, and other sporting teams take advantage of the facilities available to the community, especially when they’re looking as green and healthy as they are at the moment," Mr Clark added.
