Key Traralgon Intersection to Receive Upgrade
Upgrading the intersection of Bank Street and the Princes Highway in Traralgon
The Andrews Labor Government is upgrading the intersection of Bank Street and the Princes Highway in Traralgon to reduce congestion and improve safety for pedestrians and motorists.
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today announced $2.9 million to improve traffic flow at this key intersection and increase pedestrian safety, particularly at the railway crossing.
This busy intersection sees around 20,000 vehicles every day, including cars and heavy vehicles.
New traffic lights will be installed with a new pedestrian crossing across the highway. A new gated pedestrian crossing will be built at the railway line and a footpath linking Bank Street to the Traralgon Golf Course.
The upgrade will also include a new left hand slip lane out of Bank Street onto the highway and a dedicated right hand turning lane from Bank Street to the highway to make it safer and easier for drivers to turn in and out of Bank Street.
The existing right turning lane from the highway to Bank Street will also be lengthened.
These improvements will help reduce queue lengths, congestion and delays for motorists, making it far more efficient.
Service relocation works will take place in May.
During these works, there will be temporary access restrictions at the intersection. Detours will be in place and clearly signposted.
There will also be separate detour routes for light and heavy vehicles due to height restrictions.
Main construction works are due to commence later in the year and are due for completion in mid-2019.
Quotes attributable to Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing
"We’re upgrading this intersection to reduce congestion and improve safety and amenity for drivers and road users as traffic volumes grow."
"These works will involve disruptions and changes to traffic flow during construction, but the new pedestrian crossing, slip lane and right hand turn and footpath improvements will make a huge difference."
