Gippsland Multicultural Advisory Council Nominations Open A meeting to inform the public about the Victorian Government¡¦s work in developing new state-wide multicultural Regional Advisory Councils, will be held in Morwell next month, Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe said today. By Russell Northe - 24th August 2011 - Back to News ¡§Nominations for the Multicultural Regional Advisory Councils across the state, including ours in Gippsland, are now open,¡¨ Mr Northe said.
¡§A Strengthening Our Community session which informs people about the development of the councils, will be held at the Italian Australian Club in Morwell on Thursday 8 September from 5.30pm-6.30pm and I encourage those interested to attend.¡¨
Eight Regional Advisory Councils will be established across Victoria and will act as vital links to the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC).
The core functions of the Regional Advisory Councils will include:
„h Providing advice on settlement issues in the region, local multicultural affairs and citizenship;
„h Assisting the VMC to promote the benefits of cultural and religious diversity;
„h Advocating for culturally and linguistically diverse communities (CALD); and
„h Providing advice in communication, engagement and consultation with CALD communities.
Regional Advisory Councils will operate from Gippsland, the Loddon Mallee, Grampians, Barwon South West, Hume, Southern Metropolitan, Eastern Metropolitan and North Western Metropolitan regions.
Mr Northe said locals who were able to represent the interests of their community and region should express interest in becoming a member of the Gippsland Regional Advisory Council.
¡§Members of a Regional Advisory Council are expected to represent the broad interests of the region and must be available for participation in committee meetings and activities,¡¨ Mr Northe said.
