Join Melbourne City Ballet as they bring the classical ballet version of William Shakespeare’s arguably most popular work Romeo & Juliet to life at Latrobe Performing Arts Centre on Tuesday, 16 August.
Latrobe City Council’s performing arts and venues coordinator, Kathleen Roberts, said Romeo & Juliet was Melbourne City Ballet’s most raw production within their repertoire, taking the audience on a journey to the city of Verona and into the lives of the two star-crossed lovers.
"Choreographed by artistic director Michael Pappalardo, William Shakespeare’s classic story explores the chance meeting of two young lovers, the son and daughter of two rival families, who quickly develop a forbidden love that could cost them their lives," Ms Roberts said.
"The production features a cast of 14 dancers, starring principal artists Yuiko Masukawa and Brendan Bradshaw in the titled roles.
"Known for their unique choreography and high quality artists, Melbourne City Ballet has quickly grown on the Australian arts scene under the direction of Mr Pappalardo, who founded the company in 2013.
"Expect beautiful costumes, cleverly designed sets and an unmistakably evocative score in this timeless production. Don’t forget to pack your tissues for Melbourne City Ballet’s most romantic and powerful ballet."
Romeo & Juliet will be performed at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre at 7.30pm on Tuesday, 16 August.
