Wellington Shire Council is inviting local not-for-profit community groups and organisations to apply for Community Assistance Grants to help towards the invaluable services they provide.

By Wellington Shire Council - 11th August 2003 - Back to News

The Council appreciates the hard work they invest in initiatives and services which support its drive to boost the wellbeing of communities across the Shire.

Last year 37 groups and organisations received a total of $86,843 under the grants scheme, which is run annually by Wellington Shire.

There are two categories of funding offered:

  • Community Programs – where a group or organisation is developing opportunities to improve quality of life in Wellington Shire;
  • Festivals and Events – to support the development and preparation of high quality community festivals and events.

Application forms and a copy of the funding guidelines will be available from early next week (commencing 18 August) at the Council’s Service Centres in Sale, Maffra and Yarram, as well as from its libraries across the Shire, its OA Ruff Sports Stadium and the Lex Glover Swimming Complex. In addition details will also be on the Council’s web site www.wellington.vic.gov.au

Wellington Shire will also be running a series of workshops later this month, offering important advice to applicants on how to maximise the effectiveness of their grant submissions. The dates, venues and times are:

25 August Yarram (Multipurpose Room – Yarram & 7.00pm

District Health Service)

27 August Sale (Wellington Shire Council offices - 7.00pm

70 Foster Street)

28 August Maffra (Memorial Hall) 7.00pm

To book a place please contact the Council’s Lisa Lyndon on 5142 3326.

The closing date for applications is Friday 26 September. A final decision on the successful grant applications will be made by the Council on 18 November and the grants will be formally presented on 10 December.

Said Wellington’s Mayor John Jago: "We greatly appreciate the hard work and invaluable contribution that not-for-profit community groups and organisations make to life in Wellington, and we are keen to help out wherever we can. We would encourage any who think they may be eligible for a grant to apply, and also to attend one of the workshops to ensure they get the most from their application and maximise their chance of success."
