Council To Assist Small Businesses

East Gippsland Shire Council, with the support of the State Government, will assist small business operators affected by the recent drought.

By news@gippsland - 28th May 2004 - Back to News

Council applied for and received grants under the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development’s "Business Capacity Rebuilding Program".

"The program is aimed at assisting non-agricultural small businesses and business groups affected by the drought conditions of recent years and for many this hardship will continue for some time," said Shire Chief Executive Officer, Steve Kozlowski.

"The program will provide business operators with the necessary skills to improve their business performance, and their ability to withstand the rigours of future adverse conditions."

East Gippsland Shire Council will manage programs that work with the following groups:

  • The Bruthen business community;
  • Mallacoota and District Business and Tourism Association;
  • The Orbost business community;
  • The Twin Rivers Farm Food and Wine Trail.

"Council’s Tourism and Business Unit would like to extend its appreciation to Regional Development Victoria Small Business Development Officer, Phillip Milbourne, for his efforts in assisting Council with the application," Steve said.

"Phillip has been conducting regular small business information sessions in East Gippsland for the past year and is well respected among the business community.

"There are many businesses in the community that are asking the Council for business assistance," Steve said.

"We are working with the State and Federal Governments to get as much available assistance into East Gippsland. This project is an example of the State Government’s support," Steve said.
