South Gippsland Leongatha Memorial Hall Project and other community updates and opportunities

Leongatha Memorial Hall Project: South Gippsland Shire Council seeks community input on updating the Heritage-listed Hall. Participate via workshops, an online survey, or the Project Reference Group.

South Gippsland Shire Council is seeking community feedback from people who currently use Memorial Hall and adjoining precinct, and those who would like to use the space in the future. The adjoining public toilets and adjacent streetscape will also be included as part of the project.

This project will look at the feasibility of updating the Heritage-listed Hall to improve access and functionality, and consider its potential for a broad range of community uses. There are three ways you can have your say:

  • Attend a workshop
  • Complete the online survey
  • Volunteer to be part of the Project Reference group

Submit your feedback by visiting the South Gippsland Shire Council website before the survey closes on Sunday 13 April 2025.

Korumburra Bena Football Netball Club Change Rooms

Last weekend, the Korumburra Bena Football Netball Club Change Rooms were officially opened. Representatives from the Victorian and Australian Government were in attendance, as well as a huge number of community members. The project was funded by contributions of:

  • $800,000 from the Victorian government's Female Friendly Facilities Fund
  • $710,180 from the Australian government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program
  • $100,000 from the Korumburra Bena Football Netball Club
  • $400,000 from South Gippsland Shire Council

Festival of Small Halls

The Festival of Small Halls Tour is coming to South Gippsland this weekend! Featuring Lucy Farrell and Hat Fitz and Cara, this travelling lineup of live music will be activating 18 small halls around Victoria.

Easter Egg Hunt at Coal Creek

The Lion's Club of Korumburra is bringing the Easter Bunny to Coal Creek this Easter Sunday (20 April). There are three age groups, each has a different degree of difficulty to find multi-colored wooden blocks hidden in the park. Once four are collected they are exchanged for delicious chocolate Easter eggs.

2025 Southcoast Community Leadership Program

The South Coast Community Leadership Program cohort for 2025 have started their learning journey. The group of 25 participants from across Bass Coast and South Gippsland Shire came together for the first time on Saturday 15 March at the Korumburra Community Hub and relished the opportunity to connect.

EOI Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee

We are seeking community members to join the Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee. The Committee addresses access and inclusion issues, promotes equity, and develops the Access and Inclusion Action Plan.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training

Youth Mental Health First Aid training is now available for booking on council's website. This training equips participants with the skills to recognise and respond to signs of mental health issues in young people, providing crucial support and guidance. If this training would benefit you in your career or volunteer position, we encourage you to consider participating.

Additionally, refresher courses are available for those whose certificates are nearing expiration (certificates are valid for three years). Funding opportunities

Community Grants

Time is running out to submit an application for South Gippsland Shire Council's second round of Community Grants. Community Grants are an opportunity for council to give back to local clubs and community groups who give so much to others.

Community Resilience Grant

Secure funding of up to $3,000 to support an event, activity or training session in your town while promoting resilience, community connectedness, and emergency preparedness.
