We’Re More Satisfied With Our Council

Overall satisfaction with the East Gippsland Shire council continues to rise according to the results of the Local Government Community Satisfaction Survey 2006.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 9th June 2006 - Back to News

The survey shows that 62 percent of the 350 people interviewed in the telephone survey expressed overall satisfaction this year versus 57 percent in 2005.

Satisfaction for the Council’s interactive responsiveness in dealing with the public also rose to record 71 percent score this year against a 69 percent last year.

Other key results showed:

  • Satisfaction rating for Council's advocacy community representation on key local lifted from 58 percent in 2005 to 60 percent in 2006.
  • Satisfaction rating for Council's decision making on key local issues lifted to 58 percent this year, from 53.

Shire CEO Steve Kozlowski said the results of the 2006 survey indicate that of the 13 measures surveyed, ten have shown increases while three had shown slight decreases.

"Importantly, the long term trends since 1998 indicate significant improvements in all measures," he said.

The survey also reveals that two and a half times as many residents (25%) believe the Shire's performance has improved over the past twelve months than those who believe it has deteriorated (10%).

The survey is undertaken each year by an independent market research company for the Department for Victorian Communities. A total of 350 ‘head of household’ interviews were conducted during February and March.

The results were then placed in a database and benchmarked against previous years' results, together with other "like group" Councils.

Mayor Cr Jane Rowe said the Community Satisfaction Survey is one of a number of ways in which Council receives feedback on service delivery issues.

"It provides Council with an opportunity to benchmark its results and is considered to be a valuable tool for setting Council objectives and strategies." she said.

"The survey provides valuable feedback and helps Council determine its current program and longer-term objectives and strategies.

"I am pleased that the 2006 results indicate very positive improvements in the public’s perception of Shire performance over the past year."
