South Gippsland Shire Council is calling for expressions of interest for the South Gippsland Youth Council (SGYC). The SGYC has been kicked off again with the aim of empowering young people and to provide them with a platform to voice their opinions and contribute to our local community. Empowering youth

By actively engaging in discussions addressing issues affecting young people, and advocating for their needs, the SGYC aims to positively impact and enhance the quality of life for all young individuals living in the Shire. Expressions of interest are now open for enthusiastic and passionate young people who wish to become part of the SGYC. This is an exciting opportunity to actively participate in civic affairs, develop leadership skills and make a difference in your community. The benefits of being involved include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with key decision-makers in the community
  • Leading the development and delivery of projects that are important to young people
  • Meeting other like-minded young people
  • Having fun and being challenged!

To be eligible for consideration, interested candidates must be a resident of South Gippsland and between the ages of 14 to 24. To find out more or to submit an Expression of Interest, please visit South Gippsland Shire Youth Council page or phone 5662 9200.

Encourage youth involvement

Cr Nathan Hersey, Mayor South Gippsland Shire Council said, "We look forward to welcoming a new group of young people to the Youth Council, who are eager to contribute their unique perspective and ideas to shape a better future for the young people in South Gippsland."

"Together, we can foster an environment that values the voice of the youth and ensures their active participation in decision- making processes. I encourage all eligible young people to apply and remind all residents that the world is run by people who show up, so get involved," Mayor Hersey said.
