Musical feast for Australia Day celebrations at Kernot Hall Latrobe City’s Australia Day celebrations at Kernot Hall this year will feature four local bands playing together as a highlight of the annual citizenship ceremony. By Latrobe Shire Council - 18th January 2005 - Back to News Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Bruce Lougheed, said that The Latrobe City Youth Band, City of Traralgon Band, Morwell Citizens Band and the Morwell Caledonian Band would join together in a huge gala performance to present ‘Sounds of Australia’.
"In what will be a first for Latrobe City’s citizenship ceremony, the bands will also have their own time to showcase their musical talent before combining to perform a finale to what will be a significant day," Cr Lougheed said.
"The combined performance will give everyone a greater appreciation of the musical genius so readily found in Latrobe City. David Williams, the conductor of our Latrobe City Youth Band, will lead the combined performance.
"Here we all have an opportunity to see many gifted and talented musicians performing popular Australian tunes which will complement our citizenship ceremony. We will see about 80 musicians on stage which is a fantastic achievement," Cr Lougheed explained.
"The Kernot Hall extravaganza also includes the Australia Day Awards and is part of Latrobe City’s overall Australia Day activities schedule. Don’t forget too, that all towns are holding morning flag raising ceremonies with breakfasts or barbecues; the open air pools have free family fun days planned and there are other sporting and leisure events being held around the municipality.
"Australia Day 2005 will be a huge day packed with activities for all residents to enjoy and a day which will remain in our memories for a long while," Cr Lougheed concluded.
The ‘Sounds of Australia’ Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Celebrations at Kernot Hall will commence at 1pm and conclude at about 3.30pm. For further information, please contact Wendy Hrynyszyn on 5128 5618.
Meanwhile, in Victory Park, Traralgon, the Tsunami Appeal Big Wave Concert will ensure there is music for everyone with a program running from 10am through to 9pm.
