Bass Coast Shire Council is seeking feedback on the updated Plan for the playspace at Wonthaggi Guide Park.

The project aims to develop an accessible, intergenerational space that offers a variety of challenging experiences while also providing natural shade and park amenities for residents and visitors.

The Plan includes a large mine themed slide structure, sand play, an accessible carousel and exercise equipment for older adults.

During January and February, Council undertook extensive community consultation including pop-up sessions in the park, an online survey and stakeholder meetings.

Community response to the Plan was really supportive. The natural setting, modern equipment and accessibility were highlights for the community. From the feedback, several changes have been made including the inclusion of a fence and gates along the road side, the addition of a parkour area for teenagers and lighting.

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari, said that Guide Park was identified for an upgrade in the 2017 Bass Coast Playspace Strategy, with the current playspace installed in 2005.

"The community response to the Plan has been very exciting. We have received lots of good feedback which we have incorporated into the updated Plan," Cr Tessari said.

"The community was very strong about their desire for a fence along Graham Street which has been added."

The community is encouraged to consider the final Plan and provide feedback. The plan is on display on location at the Park and also online on Council’s website at www.basscoast.vic.gov.au/guidepark.

The Plan is on exhibition until Sunday, 19 May.

Feedback can be sent via email to Council’s Recreation and Open Space Planner, Ella Angarane, E.Angarane@basscoast.vic.gov.au or in writing to PO Box 118, Wonthaggi 3995.
