Latrobe volunteers thanked with a special performanceLatrobe City volunteers were treated to a special performance by Denise Drysdale at Kernot Hall on 1 June, to celebrate the hard work and dedication shown by Latrobe citizens who dedicate their time to the voluntary services offered in the local area By Latrobe Shire Council - 9th June 2004 - Back to News Volunteer Training and Events Officer, Wendy Hansen, said local volunteers and volunteer recipients were rolling in the aisles at the witty and hilarious Denise Drysdale.
"Denise was her usual exuberant, entertaining and hilarious self. Her routine had people wiping away tears of laughter and no one left without a huge smile on their face," Ms Hansen said.
"During the performance Denise answered many personal questions about her career, past work colleagues and family. Light humorous banter also continued when she signed CD’s purchased by audience members after the show," Ms Hansen added.
Latrobe City Mayor, Cr Darrell White, said that the performance was dedicated to the hard working individuals who dedicate their time and energy to helping others in the local community and every effort needs to be made to show appreciation for the generous and unconditional work that they do.
"There are hundreds of people in Latrobe City who participate in volunteer work and programs, and thousands more who rely on these services to live a healthier and more fulfilling life," Cr White said.
"It is important that the work of volunteers continues to be recognised in the local area, either through National Volunteer Week, or through community organised events, such as the Denise Drysdale concert. These events demonstrate the appreciation of the whole community for people who volunteer year after year to help and support other people purely out of the kindness of their hearts," Cr White concluded.
The Denise Drysdale performance was supported by Latrobe City Council, Commonwealth Carer Respite Centre Gippsland and GippsTAFE. TAFE Hospitality students also provided a Devonshire tea for all of those who attended the event.
