Governor And Mrs Landy To Visit LatrobeThe Governor of Victoria, John Landy, AC, MBE, and Mrs Lynne Landy will visit Latrobe City on Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 June. By news@gippsland - 28th May 2004 - Back to News The Governor of Victoria, John Landy, AC, MBE, and Mrs Lynne Landy will visit Latrobe City on Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 June, taking the opportunity of the vice regal visit to tour some of the regions industry, community and arts facilities, and meet citizens involved in community projects.
The Governor’s visit will commence with an early morning tour of the Moe Newborough Sports Centre, where the operations of the Centre will be demonstrated and will also provide the opportunity for the Governor and Mrs Landy to meet athletes from the Edison Mission Energy Gippsland Sports Academy, representatives from Gippsport and the Centre’s user groups.
Following the visit to the Moe Newborough Sports Centre, the Governor will visit National Foods and view production of dairy products manufactured at the plant; while Mrs Landy visits the Morwell Centenary Rose Garden and the Airlie Bank Gallery, including the Light Horse Museum.
PowerWorks Energy Technology Centre is next on the vice regal itinerary, with the Governor and Mrs Landy touring the facility and inspecting the new displays at the Centre. They will use this opportunity of this part of the visit to meet with representative from Latrobe Valley’s power industries and school principals from across the region. A grade of students from the Yallourn North Primary School will also be in attendance.
The Governor and Mrs Landy will next visit the Ninde Dana Quarenook Aboriginal Co-operative. The Co-operative provides a number of health and ancillary services to indigenous people, while also being home to the Aboriginal Housing Co-operative and a number of organisations that provide family and youth support.
In the afternoon, the Governor will visit Monash University where he will be taken on a tour of the School of Nursing and then be shown a demonstration of the Outdoor Education Program; while Mrs Landy will visit the Yinnar Primary School. Mrs Landy will meet with students at the school and be given a tour of the school’s Blue Earth Physical Education Program and a demonstration of the School’s Reading Recovery Season.
Late on the Wednesday afternoon, Latrobe City will host a civic reception for the Governor and Mrs Landy at the Latrobe Regional Gallery, where the vice regal party will be welcomed by Latrobe City Mayor, Cr Darrell White. They will be introduced to community leaders, representatives from the business community, cultural organisations, state and federal politics and various community organisations.
On Thursday 10 June, the Governor and Mrs Landy will tour the Latrobe Regional Airport where they will inspect Gippsland Aeronautics’ manufacturing plant and the production of the GA8 Airvan aircraft. They will then be guests at a morning tea hosted by the Airport Board attended by key airport tenants and their employees.
The Governor and Mrs Landy will then depart Latrobe City for a tour of Wellington Shire.
Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said Council was thrilled with the announcement of the vice regal visit. "Sir James and Lady Gobbo were highly impressed by the strength of community and warm welcome they experienced on their vice regal visit to Latrobe City in May 2000.
"We feel sure the Governor and Mrs Landy will be equally impressed by the innovation displayed by the businesses and organisations they visit, the progress being made throughout the municipality, and the strength of the welcome they receive from the people they meet on their forthcoming visit," Cr White said.
