Consultant Appointed For Gippsland Logistics Precinct

Latrobe City Council has appointed consultancy firm Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) to undertake a study of the indicative level of freight suitable for transport by rail from the proposed Gippsland Logistics Precinct in Tramway Road, Morwell.

By Latrobe City - 13th February 2009 - Back to News

Latrobe’s general manager economic sustainability, Allison Jones, said the company is currently meeting with local and regional businesses to assess rail freight needs and identify potential opportunities presented by the Gippsland Logistics Precinct.

"Latrobe City is in the process of negotiating a lease for the Gippsland Intermodal Freight Terminal with the Victorian Government. This operation, along with the adjacent council-owned land, is proposed to be developed into the Gippsland Logistics Precinct.

"The objective of undertaking the study is to review and update the estimated rail freight tasks prior to seeking Council approval to move to the next stage of the project and provide the means of demonstrating an indicative level of demand to potential operators and/or developers of the site in the future," Ms Jones said.

"SKM has been provided with a list of businesses with current freight requirements and is required to complete the project by 16 March 2009," Ms Jones concluded.

For those who have a current or future need for rail freight as a means of transport, please contact Latrobe City’s coordinator business development, Jody O’Kane on 5128 5460 or 0429 850 710 for further discussion.
