Free forum for community groups on grant opportunities

Latrobe City council is providing community groups and non profit organisations with a free forum to learn about grant opportunities, other than of a local government nature, that are accessible through a number of government organisations.

By Latrobe City Council - 19th April 2006 - Back to News

The forum, to be held on Wednesday 26 April at the Italian Australian Sporting Club of Gippsland in Princes Drive Morwell, will include tips and hints on where and how to access government grants, and ways to tap into a number of funding sources to help with development of specific projects.

Latrobe City’s community development officer, Teresa Pugliese, said the forum has been organised by council’s community development team in response to a council assessment of the needs of community groups and non profit organisations for training and networking.

"By taking advantage of available grants, community groups are better able to meet their needs, maintain and enhance their resources and strengthen their positions. This coming forum is designed to provide participants with important information about accessing government grants relevant to their organisation," Ms Pugliese explained.

A variety of guest speakers on the night will include representatives from the Department for Victorian Communities, Regional Development Victoria, the Department of Sustainability and Environment and the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority.

The forum will begin at 6.30pm for a 7pm start and conclude at approximately 10pm. Light refreshments will be provided on arrival.

Bookings for the forum can be made by contacting Latrobe City Council by telephoning 1300 367 700 or TTY 5135 8322 by Monday 24 April.

Further information can be obtained by contacting Latrobe City’s community development officer Teresa Pugliese, telephone 1300 367 700.

Local government grant opportunities, which are provided through council, will be announced early in the new financial year; with applications likely to be invited during July and August.
