Gippsland Community Leadership Program is seeking Nominations for 2004

The Program is the first regional community leadership program established to provide a forum for the existing leaders to share their knowledge, skills and experiences with those who will further Gippsland’s development.

By news@gippsland - 21st October 2003 - Back to News

Gippsland has the essential elements for a successful community and thriving economy. We have an abundance of natural resources, perhaps the most pleasant living environment in Australia, close yet diverse communities, a highly trained and skilled workforce and lots of opportunity. The essential element to capitalise on this is enhanced leadership.

To take advantage of the opportunities we need people ready and willing to improve our community. The Gippsland Community Leadership Program is designed to establish networks that meet these challenges. The Gippsland Community Leadership Program Alumni further develops those networks.

Using the community as a classroom, participants are introduced to diverse areas of the community as well as a broad spectrum of leaders from the community and across Australia.

The ultimate goal of the program is to build leadership resources within the Gippsland Community. It encourages participants’ entrance into a wider community system of interest to them and provides a new and broader understanding of how various community systems can and should work.

With the acquired knowledge and broader perspective, these emerging leaders will be committed to outcomes that will make a difference both personally and within our community.

The Gippsland Community Leadership Program runs from March until November each year and opens with a Weekend Residential where participants are introduced to the broad issues facing the community. Participants then meet twice per month to critically review specific issues affecting the region. Speakers acknowledged as leaders in their own field stimulate this process.

The Program

The Program deals with a diverse range of topics including:

  • Small, Medium & Emerging Business
  • Media
  • Government
  • Technology
  • Education
  • Employment
  • Environment
  • Tourism & Regional Development
  • Health & Community Services
  • Social Justice
  • Law & Order
  • Agriculture
  • The Energy Industry
  • Arts/Culture

Participants are encouraged to challenge the views put by Gippsland and Australia’s leaders and  final two-day residential consolidates the year of learning into personal group action plans.

Nominations

Nominations are open to anyone by completing and returning the Application Form.  Please note that nominees must have the support of their employer as it would be impossible to commit the time without their support.

Nominees are then subject to a thorough selection process.  Selection committees take place in several locations across Gippsland. These selection committees consist of a Management Committee Member, a Program Graduate and a noted local leader.

Nominees selected for the program will possess a sincere commitment, motivation and interest to serve the Gippsland Community.
