Community Urged To Give To Red Cross Flood Appeal

Gippsland residents are encouraged to give to the Red Cross Victorian Floods Appeal to assist those in flood ravaged areas, Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe said today.

By Russell Northe - 24th January 2011 - Back to News

The appeal, which has been established by the Australian Red Cross with the Victoria Government, will support individual, families and communities in areas which have been affected by the Victoria 2011 floods.

"I urge all members of the community to donate to the Red Cross by calling 1800 811 700 or by visiting the Red Cross website at www.redcross.org.au," said Mr Northe.

"It is vital that we provide as much support as we can to those who have been affected hard by recent floods and events.

"The damage which has been caused in locations such as Horsham and Kerang has been extraordinary, with many other towns experiencing substantial damage to homes, businesses and community facilities due to minor or moderate flooding.

"It is imperative that we provide as much support as possible to help ease the burden that many will now carry. Living in Gippsland, we know the generous contributions that were made towards our appeal funds as a result of the 2009 bushfires, and I know many of us want to reciprocate this act of kindness. This is a fantastic way to do just that.

"We must stand by our neighbours in this tough time, and the Red Cross Appeal is one way we can provide support to those who need it."
