Glendonald Preschool RecommissionedAfter two years in recess Latrobe City has recommissioned Glendonald Preschool in Churchill with preschool, family day care, playgroups and toy library services to resume. By Latrobe City - 22nd February 2012 - Back to News Latrobe City mayor, Cr Ed Vermeulen, said that demand for preschool places in the Churchill area has meant that the centre has been reopened and additional family-orientated services would also be offered.
"Council will operate a four-year-old preschool session on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 1pm. Enrolments for places are still being accepted.
"We will also operate family day care playgroup each Monday during the school term. Latrobe City’s family day care is an accredited child care service, funded by the Commonwealth Government and offers quality care for children by qualified providers. Playgroup sessions are a great way for the children in the family day care system to meet other youngsters and for the providers to get together to discuss activities, excursions, training and strategies," Cr Vermeulen said.
"Additional to our own services, a Lilly Pilly Steiner Playgroup will operate at the centre from 10am to 12noon each Friday and the Churchill Toy Library will open its doors every second Saturday from 10am to 12 noon.
"We are also very pleased that the Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) will hold their meetings at Glendonald Preschool community room every third Friday of the month from 10am to 12noon, commencing Friday 17 February 2012," Cr Vermeulen explained.
Ward Councillor, Darrell White, said that being able to provide these additional services at the Glendonald Centre means that we can reach many members of the Churchill community.
"We will be getting full use from the facility and providing access to preschool services to those families who may have been on the waiting list for the other centre in Churchill.
"It is important that no child misses out on these activities during the vital early years. Learning and social skills developed at preschool and playgroup is just the beginning for these young minds," Cr White concluded.
