Council backs new Companion Card

Wellington Shire Council is offering free entry into its sporting and entertainment venues to carers of those with a disability as part of the new Companion Card program that was launched recently in Victoria

By Wellington Shire Council - 24th November 2003 - Back to News

The Council is supporting the new initiative which will see carers of all Companion Card holders gaining free access to venues and events throughout the Shire and across the state.

The Council is encouraging eligible Wellington residents to apply for their card and enjoy the benefits of the program which marks the first time an initiative of this nature has been available to Victorians. In the past, a person with a disability who requires a carer often paid two entry fees for venues and events.

Said Wellington Shire Council Mayor John Jago: "Wellington Shire provides full backing to this initiative which will open doors and increase access for those who were having to formerly pay for two admissions.

"It’s a welcome addition to many other initiatives we are involved with which are geared at supporting those with a disability."

Further information and application forms can be obtained by visiting www.companioncard.org.au or telephoning 1800 650 611.
