By Bass Coast - 16th March 2011 - Back to News

Works on the four roads will be completed consecutively to reduce the impact on road users. The Cowes-Rhyll Road project will be the first in the series of works.

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Acting Infrastructure Manager, Felicity Sist said that all works will be finished by the end of May 2011.

"As part of our commitment to improving road safety Council secured funding for roads that have a higher than usual history of vehicle crashes," said Ms Sist.

"Works will include widening roads and shoulders, intersection and driveway sealing, better marking on the roads, guardrail and drainage improvements.

"There may be some disruptions to traffic on these four roads while the road safety improvements are being completed.

"However we’re working with our contractor to ensure that any disruptions are kept to a minimum and that residents and business owners are kept well informed," continued Ms Sist.

The combined costs for the four sites are $1m, which has been fully funded by the by the 2010/2011 Nation Building Blackspot Program.
