Community feedback supports retaining Moe Gardens Caravan Park as affordable short-stay accommodation in Latrobe City

Latrobe City Council received 223 community submissions supporting Moe Gardens Caravan Park’s retention as low-cost accommodation, with a report on its future to return to Council February 2026.

At its November Council meeting, Latrobe City Council received and noted community submissions on the future of Moe Gardens Caravan Park at 1 Mitchells Road, Moe. In October 2025, Council undertook community consultation and received 223 submissions, with the majority supporting the retention of the caravan park as a low-cost accommodation option to attract short-stay visitors.

Caravan park update

Council will be presented with a report at the February 2026 Council meeting that details the options available to continue to operate the Caravan Park at its current location. The Caravan Park is situated on 3.2 hectares and used to be located on the outskirts of Moe township, but as housing development has grown in Moe, the park is now located within the heart of Moe township.

The use of the caravan park has evolved significantly since the start of the lease in 2008. Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson said it was important that the community understood the next steps. "It's important the community understands the park isn't closing, we're not shutting the park – Council is legally required to go out and talk with the community and wider stakeholders ahead of the current lease coming to an end."

Caravan park future

Cr Halstead said, "We have heard what the community has had to say and in fact, about 80 per cent of the feedback we received supported keeping it as a caravan park, which really says it all. People want somewhere affordable to stay - whether it's for a quick getaway or a short break."

"It also gives travellers more options when they're heading into Latrobe City. The report will return to Council in February so we can have a good look at the future of the caravan park and what comes next in the best interests of the community," said the Mayor.
