Danny O'Brien calls on Allan government to support Nyora early childhood education centre, improving access and community connectionsThe Nationals urge the Allan government to collaborate with Nyora community and education stakeholders to establish a local early childhood centre, improving access, school transitions, enrolments, and long-term community sustainability. By news@gippsland - 5th March 2026 - Back to News The Nationals are calling on the Allan Government to work with community and early education stakeholders to progress the establishment of an early childhood education centre in Nyora. Speaking in state parliament, The Nationals’ Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Melina Bath called on the government to address barriers that currently prevent Nyora families from accessing kindergarten in their own community.
Danny O’Brien says Nyora is ideal for a local early childhood centre, supporting school transitions, enrolments, community connections, with strong local support and calls for government collaboration Kindergarten for NyoraMr O’Brien said, "Gippsland is recognised as an early learning and childcare desert, and towns like Nyora do not have sufficient access to kindergarten programs locally. To attend early childhood education, many rural families must travel to neighbouring towns, which is inconvenient, creates structural barriers and impacts enrolments in our rural schools. The Allan Government has a responsibility to deliver equitable access to early childhood education for all families regardless of their postcode." The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien said Nyora is well placed for the development of a local early childhood centre for three and four year old children. "A co-located kindergarten next to Nyora Primary School would support long term sustainability by strengthening school transitions, enhancing enrolments and deepening community connections." "The Nyora community is highly motivated to see a local kindergarten be realised, with the Community Development Group actively supporting the project and open to flexible partnership approaches. The Nationals are calling on the state government to work with locals in good faith to provide access to early childhood services in Nyora," concluded Mr O’Brien.
