Student Visit To Takasago Postponed Not CancelledLatrobe City Mayor Cr Brendan Jenkins today clarified arrangements for the 2001 student visit to Takasago City, following some reports stating the visit had been cancelled. By Latrobe City Council - 15th November 2001 - Back to News Latrobe City Mayor Cr Brendan Jenkins today clarified arrangements for the 2001 student visit to Takasago City, following some reports stating the visit had been cancelled.
"The visit which was to have taken place in late September has not been cancelled but has been postponed due to the terrorist attacks and the collapse of Ansett," Cr Jenkins said.
"Arrangements are being made to conduct this visit in April next year, meaning the visit will still occur in the current financial year," Cr Jenkins said.
"There is also some confusion surrounding funding for the new Latrobe City Youth Band and its tour of Asia. The recent proposal by Council’s International Relations Committee to form a Youth Band has been endorsed by Council and the tour to Takasago and Taizhou will occur in the 2002/2003 financial year, most probably in April 2003," Cr Jenkins explained.
"In essence, the Youth Band tour in 2002/2003 will replace the normal student visit planned for that financial year, so there will be no additional international relations funding needed, beyond what is normally made available for the student visit program," Cr Jenkins added.
