Bass Coast Seniors "Live It Up!" Phil Kent, Master of Ceremonies, with four-year-old performer, Taylor Platt Both the film festival and concert were a huge success By Bass Coast Shire - 22nd March 2002 - Back to News The Bass Coast Senior Citizens’ Week Film Festival and Concert on Wednesday 20 March was a huge success. More than four hundred local senior citizens enjoyed a day of entertainment and fun at the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre.
"The theme for this year’s Senior Citizens Week was ‘Live It Up’ and the audience certainly did," said Cr John Gains, Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Council. "The Wonthaggi Community Arts Centre was filled with happy, laughing seniors enjoying films, music and lunch."
The film segments included old news reels, adverts and footage of local areas. No doubt the film rekindled many memories of events and places in the district.
Phil Kent was a charming and able Master of Ceremonies during the Festival, which included many talented performers. Four year old Taylor Platt sang "Somewhere over the Rainbow" and grace. The Circle P Bootscooters kicked up their heels, and Kath Kent and Bruce Chambers performed a moving duet of "You Don’t Send Me Flowers". Val Dack led the ever-popular sing-a-long.
The Wonthaggi Secondary College Band entertained the audience during lunch.
A highlight of the day was a presentation by Cr Miranda Sage to Mr Travis Ellis. Mr Ellis was presented with two certificates of appreciation in recognition of his many years of tireless voluntary work in the community.
"This annual event is made possible by the hard working Senior Citizens Planning Committee, which includes local senior citizens clubs, local residents, San Remo Community Health Centre staff and Bass Coast Shire Council staff," said Cr Gains. "It is a real team effort."
