New Gippsland cheese book looks almost good enough to eat

Gippsland’s Master Cheese Makers are featured in a new, high quality publication

Gippsland’s Master Cheese Makers are featured in a new, high quality publication which was launched at a gala event in Melbourne’s Hilton Hotel last Friday.

Titled ‘Gippsland Country Cheese and Master Cheese Makers’, the fifty-two page glossy publication highlights Gippsland’s boutique cheese and ice cream manufacturers.

Funded by the Commonwealth Department of Transport and Regional Services - Local Government Development Program, the book was completed as part of the Gippsland Dairy Products Alliance project. This project, which receives support from all of Gippsland’s local government bodies, provides a marketing focus on Gippsland’s dairy industry.

In admiring the quality production, Latrobe City Mayor, Cr Brendan Jenkins, said that Gippsland now has an additional marketing edge that will be very useful to promote itself into regional Victoria, interstate, and even overseas.

"Now that cheese and ice cream producers have been featured in a book containing magnificent photographs of Gippsland dairy products and Gippsland scenery, successful marketing of the region and its strong dairy capabilities will be much easier," Cr Jenkins said.

"This book captures the true spirit of Gippsland’s food industry, detailing the fine textures of cheese and ice cream, clearly showing just what we are capable of achieving. In fact, the quality pictures featured in the book make the food look really tantalizing, and even the book itself looks good enough to eat," Cr Jenkins said.

Included in the new publication are Tarago River Cheese Company, Faudel Goat Cheese Company, Top Paddock Cheeses, Jindi Cheese, Maffra Cheese Company, Riviera Ice Cream and Bows Natural Ice Cream.

In launching the book before ninety invited guests, Federal Minister for Regional Services, Territories and Local Government, Ian McDonald emphasised the virtues of local government working together to produce such a fine marketing medium that will advertise Gippsland to the wider community.

Copies of the new book are being distributed to all local governments in Gippsland and the producers who participated in the project. The book is available at all of Latrobe Council’s Citizen Service Centres at $8.95. It is proposed that copies will also be available soon through fine food outlets.
