Tom McIntosh embraces investment for Gippsland Jetties rebuilt to boost local fishing, tourism and support regional economic growth
The Allan Labor government has completed upgrades to McLoughlins Beach and LEFL South jetties, supporting Gippsland's fishing, tourism, and boating communities as part of a statewide pier investment program.
The Allan Labor government is continuing to support boaters, fishers and the broader Gippsland community with the completion of two key jetties in the region. The McLoughlins Beach Jetty and the Lakes Entrance Fishing Cooperative (LEFL) South Jetty on Bullock Island have been rebuilt following a $18 million package for piers and jetties across Victoria funded in the Victorian Budget 2022/23.

Jetty upgrades completed
The McLoughlins Beach Jetty was last upgraded in 1985 and is an important landmark of the local community as well as a popular choice for recreational boaters, anglers and sightseers who visit the area. Works on the jetty included new fibre reinforced plastic piles, beams, deck and handrails. The completion of the new McLoughlin's Beach Jetty follows the February completion of works on the new LEFL South Jetty on Bullock Island.
Gippsland Lakes is home to the largest fishing fleet in Victoria and the LEFL South Jetty plays a significant role in supporting the local economy by bringing in around 3,000 tonnes of seafood each year. Rebuilding and safety works will also be undertaken to piers and jetties at Dromana, Flinders, Hampton, Mornington, St Leonards, Warneet and Workshops (Williamstown).
Piers investment delivered
New piers and jetties and works at Raymond Island and Rye have been completed. The Labor government is investing $46 million in critical pier rebuilds and repairs across the state. Victoria's local ports and piers contribute more than $900 million a year to local and regional economies through tourism, marine activities, and industries.
Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh said, "The McLoughlin's Beach Jetty is a much-loved landmark for the local community, and we're thrilled to see it rebuilt and ready to support locals and visitors for many more years. This critical investment in our local piers and jetties ensures our vital Gippsland fishing and tourism industries can flourish and continue to deliver for the regional economy."
