Member for Gippsland East Craig Ingram, with members of the Bairnsdale Business Tourism Association have launched a petition calling on the government to ensure adequate funds to save the essential services which have been cut at Bairnsdale Hospital.

By Craig Ingram - 22nd March 2004 - Back to News

"The petition calls on the Victorian Government to provide adequate WEIS funding to Bairnsdale Regional Health Service to ensure that the specialist and surgical services are reinstated," Mr Ingram said.

"The level of State Government funding must increase to ensure the specialist and regular surgical operations can be conducted locally.

"I call on all concerned people of East Gippsland to sign the petition and show the government the level of community concern at the cutbacks.

"Many people have offered to take blank petitions and place them in their businesses or have undertaken a door knock in their street and I would welcome more people to get in contact with my office and arrange to have the petitions mailed to them.

"Petitions will need to be returned to my office by April 13 to ensure they meet guidelines to enable me to present them to Parliament.

"My office will do all it can to ensure that adequate funding is provided to maintain the level of service demanded by the community," Mr Ingram concluded.
