Latrobe Regional Airport Board gears up for Gippsland Aeronautics expansion

The Latrobe Regional Airport Board is gearing up to facilitate the next stage of expansion of Gippsland Aeronautics, Australia’s only passenger aircraft manufacturer.

Board Chairman, Richard Hancock, pointed to the recent hand-over of a large additional car park as an indicator of Gippsland Aeronautics’ continued growth.

"Production of more GA8 aeroplanes needs more employees, and these additional employees need additional space to park their personal vehicles. The completion of this new car park is one of the best indicators of the growth of employment at Gippsland Aeronautics," Mr Hancock explained.

Mr Hancock said that Gippsland Aeronautics had also requested that the construction of a major extension to its GA8 production hangars proceed as a priority.

"Expanding sales of the GA8 Airvan require expansion of production hangar space and the employment of around 30 additional staff over the coming months. The relocation of the Helimed 1 Air Ambulance to a new purpose-built facility is now also a high priority, so that Gippsland Aeronautics can expand into Helimed’s current temporary facilities," Mr Hancock said.

"The Latrobe Regional Airport precinct already provides a livelihood for around 150 employees, and the Board is keen to see the facility expand as rapidly as possible to secure its growth and additional growth in employment.

"Gippsland Aeronautics rents all of its production premises from the Latrobe Regional Airport Board, so it is vital that we work closely with them to ensure that both our interests are met," Mr Hancock added.

"From the Board’s point of view, Gippsland Aeronautics is our ‘anchor tenant’ and a highly visible presence in the industrial sector of the Airport. From the Gippsland Aeronautics’ point of view, it is vital that the Board provides the buildings and other facilities when they are required for expansion in their aircraft manufacturing business," Mr Hancock concluded.
