Latrobe Regional Gallery on path to Museum AccreditationBy Latrobe Shire Council - 5th October 2004 - Back to News Latrobe Regional Gallery recently received registration from the Museum Accreditation Program run by Museums Australia (Victoria), for its consistent commitment to applying industry standards and ensuring that collection pieces receive the best possible care whilst at the Gallery.
Latrobe Regional Gallery Director, Louise Tegart, said that the Gallery joins a growing number of organisations committed to raising museum standards in Victoria through the Museum Accreditation Program.
"Museums and galleries registered with the Museum Accreditation Program have to be independently appraised through a comprehensive written application. Consistent commitment to improving the appeal of collections, whilst diligently working to preserve and learn about Australia’s shared cultural heritage must also be demonstrated," Ms Tegart said.
"Latrobe Regional Gallery has fulfilled industry guidelines and shown a commitment to continually improving the Gallery, and therefore it has obtained registration and achieved the first stage of the Museum Accreditation Program. The second stage of the program is accreditation and Latrobe Regional Gallery is only the third regional gallery in Victoria to undertake the accreditation process. The Gallery will have to implement high standards in every area of operation, from management to marketing, to gain accreditation, and will also have to demonstrate quality management of the collections and continually meet Gallery goals and missions with the resources that are available," Ms Tegart explained.
Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said that Latrobe Regional Gallery was to be congratulated on obtaining registration with the Museum Accreditation Program
"The Museum Accreditation Program encourages and recognises outstanding efforts in Victoria’s museums and galleries. This has certainly been achieved by Latrobe Regional Gallery through its consistent efforts to exhibit the very best artwork by local, national and international artists," Cr White said.
"Because of the Gallery’s hard work and dedication to bringing beautiful, thought-provoking and intriguing artwork to Latrobe City, the municipality now has a thriving arts scene, and local residents no longer have to travel to metropolitan areas to admire the latest art techniques and the best exhibitions. I am extremely confident of the Gallery’s ability to achieve accreditation," Cr White concluded.
