In order to develop a Transition Plan for the region, Latrobe City Council has called on the community to share their ideas about how best to create tomorrow’s Latrobe City at a community conversation on Thursday, 21 July.

Latrobe City Council mayor, Councillor Michael Rossiter, said the plan should be a genuine reflection of the community’s aspirations for our collective future.

"There are a number of questions that we think the community are best-placed to answer. What should we be lobbying for? What social, environmental and economic investment would you like to see?"

Cr Rossiter said the information collected from this event would inform council’s future meetings with state and federal governments.

"There will be many conversations to come about how to transition Latrobe City to a diversified economy. Council does not want the community left out of these conversations about their future," Cr Rossiter said.

"This is about ensuring Council can confidently lobby state and federal governments, knowing we represent the community’s true values and desires.

"We can’t speak up on behalf of our community if we don’t know what it wants."

Cr Rossiter said the event will be a great opportunity for individuals to share their ideas and collaborate with others to develop them into actions.

"We want everyone to have an opportunity to have their say. We know that we will arrive at better outcomes if we work together."

"We are going to use a text messaging service to ensure the community’s top ideas are prioritised. This will involve asking you to send a text and vote for the ideas you think should go forward.

"There is some light reading we’d like attendees to do before the event, so RSVPs are essential."

The community conversation will be held Thursday, 21 July from 5.30pm to 9pm at the Italian Australian Club, Princes Drive, Morwell.
