Bass Coast invites you to Warreeny Ngulu exhibition at Berninneit, with free opening event on 31 May 2025'Warreeny Ngulu' (Ocean Voice) by Millowl artist Steven Ulula Parker opens 31 May at Berninneit. Featuring paintings, traditional objects, and songlines, the exhibition invites deep connection to Country and cultural healing. By news@gippsland - 16th May 2025 - Back to News 'Warreeny Ngulu (Ocean Voice)", a compelling new exhibition by Millowl artist Steven Ulula Parker will open soon at Berninneit Art Gallery. Everyone is welcome to attend the free opening on Saturday, 31 May 2025, 4-6pm. The exhibition will showcase Parker's latest works, featuring a blend of painting, traditional objects, and songline audio recordings that reflect his ceremonial and contemporary practices. 
'Warreeny Ngulu' is a major cultural event, with Berninneit gallery popular and offering exciting exhibition opportunities via open EOIs Connecting through countryA descendant of the Boonwurrung, Yorta Yorta, and Erub peoples, Uncle Steve Parker is not only an accomplished artist but also a respected cultural educator and surfer. Through "Warreeny Ngulu", Parker invites audiences to engage with the healing nature of Millowl, exploring themes that resonate deeply with his ancestral roots. "People need to tune into their own murran marrup (body and spirit). The land has been walked on for thousands of years and the more you connect in a deeper way to Country, the more Country and the Ancestors will show you. I believe our songlines are still here, it's about bringing them back to this part of Country where they have been lost." Honouring culture creativelyThe exhibition opening event will commence with a traditional smoking ceremony. Attendees are invited to immerse themselves in Parker's artistic journey, which embodies both tradition and innovation. Painting on canvas, as well as contemporary objects such as surfboards and skateboards, Parker makes his work accessible to diverse audiences and communities. We are thrilled to present Steven Ulula Parker's profound exploration of 'Warreeny Ngulu' at Berninneit Art Gallery. The exhibition is a significant cultural event for our region and community. The gallery has proven to be very popular with community and artists alike, attracting a range of renowned talent around the nation, and the space which is currently open for EOIs continues to offer exciting opportunities for future exhibitors.
