Rosedale community centre fact-finding visit for minister

Wellington Shire Council will take the opportunity to update the Hon Sherryl Garbutt MP, Minister for Community Services, on the $2.4 million multi-purpose community Centre project for Rosedale when she visits the town on Tuesday 16 March

By Wellington Shire Council - 15th March 2004 - Back to News

Minister Garbutt will be in Rosedale to officially launch $250,000 in funding for the pre-school component of the initiative, which also includes provision for a library, neighbourhood house, community health services, and facilities for local senior citizens and other community groups.

This very welcome funding from the Department of Human Services adds to $20,000 raised by the local community itself over several years, along with some $320,000 from the council, for a pre-school provision which will incorporate multi-use children’s services. In addition $270,000 funding has been received from the Federal Government towards the centre.

During her visit the Minister will also hopefully be shown around the site (in Cansick Street on the Edward Crooke Reserve site) where construction work on the multi-purpose community centre itself is expected to start later this financial year.

The council will also take the opportunity to update Minister Garbutt on additional funding being sought for the project, in particular to replace the current outmoded library facility.

Said Wellington’s Mayor John Jago: "We are delighted with the $250,000 funding announced by the State Government, which is great news for the Shire and the people of Rosedale.

"We very much look forward to updating Minister Garbutt on progress with the much-needed new pre-school and community centre, which will be a focal point for local residents. Our priority now is to get the project started on the ground as soon as we can."
