Latrobe Valley Juniors Win 4th Consecutive TitleBy - 12th April 2005 - Back to News Local Juniors representing Latrobe Valley continued their domination of the Victorian Junior Tenpin Bowling Country Cup competition held in Wodonga over the past weekend winning their 4th consecutive title – a record which is unlikely to ever be broken.
The competion attracts the best Victorian junior bowlers from 11 other country associations and sees both boys and girls competing together as one team bowling a total of 22 matches over two consecutive days for a total of 6 points per match.
The Latrobe Valley team started strongly with a good win over their archrivals Shepparton in the first match. This set the tone for the morning session and enabled the team to establish an early lead over the other teams going into the luncheon break. After the break strong wins against Geelong and Bendigo saw the locals extend their lead before a loss to second place Ballarat in the second last game of the day reduced their lead to only 5.5 points at the completion of day one.
Day two saw another strong performance against Shepparton before a shock loss against home side Ovens and Murray. This shocked the team and they immediately responded with strong wins in the next two games and a tie in the 3rd game with Sunraysia leading into the luncheon break. With 6 games to go Latrobe Valley had extended their overnight lead to be 7 points ahead of Ballarat.
After the last break the Latrobe Valley team never looked like surrendering the lead with dominating wins over eventual 2nd placed Geelong and 3rd placed Ballarat winning a total of 25 points from a possible 30 to eventually run out comfortable winners by 17.5 points.
