Martin Cameron invites Latrobe students to join 2024 Parliament Prize competition by 14 June 2024
Morwell's Nationals Member, Martin Cameron, urges local students to join the 2024 Parliament Prize. Open to Years 5 - 12, entrants record a 90-second video of a Member's Statement. Winners receive cash prizes and schools may benefit too.
The Nationals' Member for Morwell, Martin Cameron, is encouraging local students to enter the annual 2024 Parliament Prize competition. "Entries are now open for students in Years 5 - 12 for this year's Parliamentary Prize. This year, students are being asked what they would say to Parliament if they were an MP," Mr Cameron said.
Victoria's Parliament invites Grade 5 to Year 12 students to speak up on community issues via a 90-second video, offering prizes
Record statement video
To enter, students need to record a video of themselves delivering a Member's Statement that they would make to Parliament. A Member's Statement is an opportunity for elected members to make a brief statement of up to 90-seconds in State Parliament on matters of interest or concern to them and their community.
"I welcome any schools wanting to get involved to reach out to my office and I would be more than happy to assist. I've attended schools across the Valley as students continue to learn more about how our political system works. It's always interesting to hear their thoughts and views on matters that are important to them, and I look forward to hearing more of this through this great competition," Mr Cameron said.
Student competition prizes
The Parliamentary Prize competition is open to all Victorian primary and secondary school students, with age categories of years 5-6, years 7-9 and years 10-12. A prize of $500 and a commemorative trophy will be awarded to the first-placed entry in each category. There will also be prizes of $250 to the second-placed entries and $125 to the third-placed entries in each age group.
An award of $1000 will be made to each first-placed student's school, which will ideally be used to promote civics and citizenship and law-related education within these schools, at the schools' discretion. For more information on the competition including entry terms and conditions visit The Parliament Prize 2024 website. Entries close 5pm, Friday 14 June 2024.
