East Gippsland Shire Council Meeting Times to Change

East Gippsland Shire Council Meetings will change to 6.00 pm on 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month from 21 September.

As part of a resolution passed at last Wednesday’s Council Meeting it was also decided that the time of Planning Consultation meetings and briefings would change to the evening. These will take place from 6.30 pm on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month.

Mayor Harvey Bates said the new times were intended to make the Council more accessible to the general public.

"By rescheduling the key meetings out of normal working hours we expect it will suit more people who have an interest in Council affairs," he said.

"Our intention is that the meetings will finish by about 9.00 pm, so it won’t be a late night for anyone."

Cr Bates said the new day and time will also enable Councillors to attend a greater number of business commitments that are increasingly being held later in the week.

Community Consultations will continue and now occur from 6.00-6.30 pm on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month.

Cr Bates said these were introduced to create the opportunity for members of the community to have discussions with Councillors.

"We are very keen for people to attend these gatherings so that, when necessary, they can discuss matters of importance and concern in an informal and relaxed face-to-face situation," he said.

Planning Consultations that were successfully introduced earlier this year will now begin at 6.30 pm and finish by 9.00 pm.

"These will be held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month," Cr Bates said, "and we expect this time will also be more convenient for most people."
