Spring Racing Carnival for LatrobeSpring Racing Carnival planned for Latrobe City in October. By Latrobe City Council - 20th February 2001 - Back to News A major Spring Racing Carnival is planned for Latrobe City to take place over a four week period in October.
Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Tony Hanning, said that the Traralgon and Moe Racing Clubs were working together with Latrobe City Council to create a Racing Carnival, which would be second to none in regional Australia.
“The two Clubs have got together with Latrobe City Councillors and the City’s Major Events Development Officer, Janiene Ayre, to make the most of the great racing venues in Latrobe City in combination with the extensive facilities in all of the towns,” Cr Hanning said.
“The four week event in October will be comprehensive and exciting, and involve an event in Morwell to start the Carnival, followed up by premier racing events in Moe and Traralgon. All of this will be accompanied by ancillary events cross the municipality. The municipality will be joined together in a very visible way to celebrate the Spring season,” Cr Hanning said.
Deputy Mayor, Cr Brendan Jenkins, said that the aim was to create a festive atmosphere with lots of activities, which would attract people to Latrobe City to be part of the fun.
“There will be a range of incentives provided to encourage people to not only come, but to stay over and see more of Latrobe and surrounds. This will truly demonstrate that Latrobe is the hub of Gippsland,” Cr Jenkins said.
Roy Vodden of the Traralgon Racing Club and Matthew Edey of the Moe Racing Club said that the advantages of cooperation were very significant for both Clubs.
“We all work well together, and this Carnival will give us the opportunity to show the world beyond Latrobe what we have to offer,” Mr Vodden and Mr Edey said.
“With the planning well and truly underway, the Latrobe Spring Racing Carnival event will be launched in April, and give the community something very special to look forward to over the Winter months,” Cr Hanning added.
