but also as a grandparent of one of the children attending the preschool as it was grandparent and special person day at the centre.

East Newborough preschool director, Kerry Mills, said that the new kitchen at the preschool was eagerly awaited by the children and staff. "The new kitchen was made possible through a council community grant that the preschool had received last year. The kitchen renovations were carried out by third and fourth year apprentices from Gippsland Group Training," Ms Mills said.

"The old kitchen was lacking in storage space, large work benches and only had one sink. The new kitchen has a large composite of storage space, wider work benches and a large double sink.

"The new kitchen was used by the children last week to make vegetable soup. The vegetable soup was made from the vegetables which the children grew in the preschool’s vegetable garden. The children also made scones to have with their soup and also made their own butter. The butter was made from scratch by mixing double cream and putting the finished butter onto the scones," Ms Mills explained.

"Last week, as well as having our opening of the kitchen, on the same day we had a walk-a-thon. The children had the opportunity to bring along their grandparents or a special person, mainly mums and dads, and go for a walk. The walk-a-thon was conducted to raise awareness for exercising and also to raise funds for the preschool. It was a very successful day with a large number of parents and grandparents attending the event," Ms Mills concluded.
