Seed and Feed Festival at Gippsland Performing Arts Centre Forecourt 29 September 2022 thanks to Latrobe City Libraries
Latrobe City Libraries is hosting a Seed and Feed Fest on Thursday 29 September at the Gippsland Performing Arts Centre Forecourt, Kay Street, Traralgon, as part of the Stay Local school holiday program.
The 'Seed and Feed Festival' will offer good food, fun family activities and highlighting the Seed Library, which enables library members the chance to 'borrow' free seeds to grow at home.
Nornie Bero, owner and executive chef at Mabu Mabu in Melbourne, will talk about her passion for using indigenous ingredients in cooking at the Seed and Feed Festival
Celebrating spring with family
Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Kellie O'Callaghan said the event was a great way to bring families together to celebrate the coming of spring. "And it is also an opportunity to learn - about growing food, sustainability and no waste recipes, as well as have fun! Many of the workshops are being delivered or supported by local traders."
"We are also delighted to welcome guest speaker, Nornie Bero, to the event. Nornie owns two successful restaurants which highlight First Nations ingredients, culture and stories. She has also written a cookbook, 'Mabu Mabu' showcasing true Australian recipes. Nornie's philosophy is that if we use native ingredients, it's better for the environment, better for the land, and better for all of us in general.
"The festival is a great way for the community to reconnect with the Seed Library and its simple premise to borrow seeds, grow them and share the harvest," Cr O'Callaghan said.
