Puppets Provide Children With Great EntertainmentLatrobe City Libraries’ school holidays program proved to be a treat for children, with many making themselves new friends. By Latrobe City - 24th January 2011 - Back to News Latrobe City coordinator libraries, Debbie Skinner said that the puppet-themed activities gave children the chance to experience puppeteering, whilst also watching a professional puppeteer.
"In Week one, children got the chance to make their own puppets with assistance from Amanda from Polliwog Puppets. Children were shown a variety of puppets and then encouraged to produce their own unique designs.
"In the hour long session, children had access to wooden rods, stockings, fabric, foam, plastic bottles, tape, glue, string, wool, recycled materials, sequins and stuffing to produce some fantastic puppets.
"Sixty-three children took part in the extremely interactive program and enjoyed a ‘hands on’ experience. There was no lack of creativity in the sessions either, with children’s creations including insects, spiders, princesses, fairies, mermaids, robots, space ships.
"In the second Week, children were able to experience a puppet play called "The Three Little Pigs with a twist" which was preformed by the talented Ralph Baker. Ralph has many years experience presenting his play and has been a well received previous presenter at Latrobe City Libraries. The 45 minute play, with its surprise ending, was performed at Moe, Morwell and Traralgon.
"All 94 participants experienced the delight of the pig puppets and the scary big bad wolf, with many children laughing from start to finish," Ms Skinner concluded.
