South Gippsland Shire Council updates for February 2023 including South Gippsland Job Expo
South Gippsland Shire Council's update for the community about their projects and programs.
Do you know someone who might want more information on what council is up to? Be sure to send this message on and have them register for a copy or share it on your socials! Council's reception will be closed until Tuesday 28 February to allow building works to occur. Our friendly Customer Service team will still be available on the phones between 8.30am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday. Did you miss last week's council meeting? No worries! The council meeting is live streamed through a YouTube streaming service which automatically selects the appropriate quality level based on your internet speed and quality
Planning scheme review
We review our Planning Scheme every four years to ensure it is hitting the mark. We want to hear from you on anything in the report you wish to provide feedback on, but in particular the future strategic work. As with any review, it has highlighted some work we must do. The categories for review are:
- Planning scheme amendments
- Further strategic work
- Process improvements
- Advocacy

Are you looking for staff?
The Gippsland Job Expo South Gippsland is a great way for businesses to connect with job seekers who are looking for ongoing employment, apprenticeships, traineeships, casual/part-time jobs, gap year and holiday workers.
If you have job vacancies that you are looking to fill, please add your job/s to the jobs board or register to attend the expo as an exhibitor. It's a great chance to speak with job seekers about current and future job vacancies. Visit Jobs Expo page.

The Jobs Expo provides a perfect opportunity for job seekers to meet with potential employers face-to-face. Bring your resume along and be ready to talk with employers. There will be many employers at the expo with multiple job vacancies they are looking to fill.

Winston Churchill Trust
Churchill Fellowships provide successful recipients with an opportunity to travel overseas in pursuit of new knowledge and skills on an issue of importance to you and your community. Churchill Fellowships provide funded overseas travel for 4-8 weeks to investigate any issue or topic that could benefit Australia, and they are available to Australians from all walks of life.
No educational qualifications are required, and there are no limits on the topic or area of interest to be explored. A series of online information sessions are being held throughout February.
These events are free, and anyone can register via the Churchill Trust website. For more information, visit the Churchill Trust media-releases page. Applications close at the end of April.
Community grants program
Round 2 of the Community Grants program closes on March 31 2023. The Community Grants Program aims to support community initiatives that enhance the quality of life, heritage, recreation and cultural opportunities for South Gippsland residents. Funding is currently available under the following categories:
- Minor Projects & Equipment
- Major Projects & Equipment
- Planning & Development Reports
- Festivals & Events
Grant options within the South Gippsland Shire Council Grants Program are accessible only by community, volunteer and not for profit organisations. Commercial and business entities are not eligible to apply for grants under this program. For more information, visit South Gippsland Community Grants page.
Simons Lane works
Simons Lane in Leongatha will be closed to all through traffic at the Bass Highway end from 27 February 2023 for construction and sealing works from Ditchley Court towards Bass Highway. This will provide the contractor with a safe work environment. This is stage one of a two-stage project. Residents will only have access from South Gippsland Highway.

Active Kids program vouchers
Round 6 applications for the Get Active Kids Voucher Program are now open! Eligible families can apply for $200 vouchers and use them at their registered Get Active Kids Voucher Activity Provider without worrying about upfront costs.
The vouchers can help pay for sporting equipment, uniforms and memberships in various activities, from club cricket to dance. Enrolling toddlers in multiple activities, including essential learn-to-swim classes, is also an opportunity.

Eligible children may receive up to $200 to cover the costs for membership and registration fees, applications are now open
Immunisation sessions
South Gippsland Shire Council is offering immunisation sessions for the administration of all funded National Immunisation Program (NIP) vaccines. Sessions are free to attend and are run by accredited nurse immunisers with medical support. Sessions are held monthly, with late Feb/March sessions now open for booking.

Toora jetty ramp closure
The Toora Jetty and boat ramp will be closed from Monday 20 February to prepare for the installation of a new jetty. The installation is expected to take up to two weeks.
