Latrobe City working with Committee for Moe

Support for 5 city projects for Moe.

Latrobe City Council is supporting the Committee For Moe’s advocacy campaign to secure five key priority projects for Moe.

CEO Gary Van Driel said that there is nothing more powerful than a community taking action for itself.

"Council regularly receives requests from the community asking Council to advocate for a range of projects, being told that a community will be advocating for itself is fantastic news.

"No one can prosecute an advocacy campaign better than those individuals who have skin in the game, to that end I’d like to congratulate the Committee For Moe for their determination and commitment.

"Of course what’s good for Moe is good for Latrobe City and investment in one town makes us all stronger," said Mr Van Driel.

The Committee For Moe had identified five key projects as priorities for the community:

  • Railway parking/interchange upgrade
  • Completion of stages 2-3 of the Moe Activity Centre Plan
  • Moe-Newborough Netball Court Relocation
  • Railway Crossing Upgrade
  • CFA Buildings

Mr Van Driel said that any additional funding would be further enrichment of community infrastructure.

"The Moe Library and Service Centre was a $15.3 million investment in the heart of Moe and completion of Stage One of the Moe Activity Centre Plan.

"Since its opening we have experienced a fourfold increase in library patronage and strong utilisation of the community meeting spaces.

"In addition to this striking building, the State Government recently committed $3 million to the development of the Cricket Centre of Excellence at the Ted Summerton Reserve.

"Council has also recently completed a significant body of work in developing the Lake Narracan Precinct Structure Plan and has issued a planning permit for the Lake Narracan precinct. These permits will release over 650 lots of land to the market once fully developed.

"The planned release of available land is one of the key economic development tools a Council has available to it and support for the recent Lake Narracan Precinct Structure Plan suggests that there is strong optimism around what this development will mean for the Lake Narracan, Moe and the Newborough communities."
