Farmers Market celebrates ChristmasThe Kay Street lawn area opposite the Traralgon service centre and library in the civic precinct, will come alive on this Saturday 24 December. By Latrobe City Council - 19th December 2005 - Back to News The Kay Street lawn area opposite the Traralgon service centre and library in the civic precinct, will come alive on this Saturday 24 December, with the Traralgon Farmers Market celebrating Christmas.
According to Latrobe City’s senior economic development officer, Leo Billington, the Traralgon market will feature the ever popular range of fresh vegetables, bread, local wines, jams and chutneys. "The market will give shoppers a chance to meet the growers where they can relate the virtues of quality food and what it actually means to have an alternative to the ever present fast food diets," Mr Billington said.
"For that last minute shopping for the Christmas table, this will be the best chance to buy food that is fresher than fresh. Cheese, stone fruits, blueberries and strawberries will also be available, which make an excellent, succulent addition to Christmas celebrations when all the family sits down to dinner. In fact, fresh food hampers make an excellent Christmas present," Mr Billington said.
"Just as important is that the Farmers Market manages to bring us closer to the trend towards slow food, where we all learn to enjoy and appreciate wholesome food. Shopping at a farmers market is in itself, a leisurely, stress-free activity. And we can catch up with friends on Christmas Eve as well while enjoying the ambiance of Kay Street’s majestic elm trees."
Produce stalls will open at 8am through until approximately 1pm.
