Peter Hall Urges Sporting Clubs To Apply For Funding

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Province, PETER HALL is urging sporting and recreational organisations in the Gippsland Electorate to apply for funding through the Community Facility Fund.

"This program aims to help local communities work together to get projects off the ground," Mr. Hall said.

As part of the program, councils can apply directly to Sport and Recreation Victoria for grants of up to $500,000, while minor facilities grants of up to $50,000 are also available.

""Sport is a great way to get to keep fit along with providing the opportunity to develop friendships. An active lifestyle will help combat the increasing problems associated with such things as obesity and diabetes. This program provides an opportunity for clubs and organisations to increase their membership through better facilities and equipment," Mr. Hall said.

Mr Hall said without the assistance of Government resources, many clubs, particularly in country Victoria, are restricted by their ability to raise money for projects.

"Through the Community Facility Funding program, clubs, councils and Government, can work together to upgrade sporting and recreational facilities for the betterment of the wider community."

Projects which have successfully applied for funding in the past include new playgrounds for children of all abilities, netball court upgrades and club facilities.

Mr Hall said community organisations and sporting clubs need to formally express their interest in applying for funds through the program directly to their local council by November 5.

Councils are then required to submit applications for projects by November 19.
